Meet our fall intern: Colton Davis
September 9, 2026Heartland Energy welcomes Colton Davis as an intern this fall through Madison High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.
A senior at MHS, Davis will gain hands-on experience while earning school credit. Visiting Heartland twice a week, he will help with a variety of tasks, including research and data projects as well as social media and other communications projects.
“We’re excited to have Colton join us this fall and look forward to providing him the opportunity to gain real-world experience, explore different areas of the workplace and see how the skills he’s learning in the classroom translate to the workplace,” said Chief Communications Officer Ann Hyland.
Davis was born in Evansville, Indiana, and moved with his family to the Sioux Falls area before calling Madison home in 2020.
He is the reigning Class A state champion in pole vault and hopes to continue competing at the collegiate level.
After high school, Davis is considering pursuing a business degree, with engineering also a possibility. He eventually plans to return to the family farm and work alongside his dad and brother.
Madison’s CTE program gives students opportunities to explore careers through hands-on, work-based learning experiences with local businesses. Programs like these help students connect what they learn in the classroom with real-world skills and career opportunities in their own communities.
