Cossack standout is Student of the Month
March 6, 2024Isabelle Bloker earns award from Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio
In the spring of 2022, Sioux Valley High School runner Isabelle Bloker etched her name in the school’s history books, twice. She broke the school records as a freshman in the girls 1600 and 3200 meter runs during the State ‘A’ Track Meet. She placed third in the 3200 meter run, fifth in the 1600 meter run and helped set a personal record in the 4 x 800 meter relay.
Bloker returned to the state meet the following year only to break her own records and claim the titles in both events. She also set a meet record in the 3200 meter run. Bloker also helped the Cossacks girls team earn fourth place in Class A. She was also a member of the fourth place Girls 1600 Meter Sprint Medley Relay Team.
Now a junior, the highly decorated student athlete is likely to collect more accolades for her notable performance in and out of the classroom.
Bloker has been named Student of the Month by Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio. She’s recognized as an outstanding student athlete with an exemplary attitude and respect for others.
“Her drive to excel is evident in every facet of her school life,” said SVHS Principal Tyler Bolstad. “Academically, Izzy consistently achieves top marks, showcasing her dedication to learning and personal growth. In athletics, she’s a force to be reckoned with. Her relentless work ethic and team spirit elevate not only her performance but also that of her teammates. Her ability to balance and excel in these demanding areas speaks volumes of her determination and discipline.”
In addition to her track accolades, Bloker is a five-time cross country state meet qualifier, including third place finishes in 2021 and 2023 and a first-place finish in 2022. She’s also a four-time Lake Central Conference cross country champion and earned the Big East Conference cross country title in 2022.
Bloker is also a talented basketball player and surpassed 1,000 career points earlier this season. In 2021 and 2022 she was named to the Brookings Register All-Register Girls’ Basketball Team as well as All-Conference teams for both the Big East Conference and the Lake Central Conference.
In her free time, Bloker enjoys reading, working out, spending time with family and friends and playing with her puppy. She enjoys being around animals and helping out with youth athletics and kids in general.
Bloker is the daughter of Lucinda and Jeremy Bloker. After graduating from high school in 2025, she plans to attend college and run track and cross country but is currently undecided on a major and school.
The “Student of the Month” is awarded through a partnership of Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio in Madison and recognizes exceptional students in one of five area school districts. Heartland Energy provides wholesale power to the cities of Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga, all of which are in the KJAM listening area. Officials from each participating school nominate students for the award.
Each month of the school year, Heartland Energy presents an outstanding student from one of these schools with a recognition certificate and small token, and advertisements announcing the winning student air on KJAM Radio.
