Your Community. Your Utility. Your Power.
October 5, 2026Happy Public Power Week!
This week is our chance to celebrate what makes public power different and recognize the people who make it work every day.
This year’s theme, Your Community. Your Utility. Your Power., is a great reminder that public power is about more than electricity. It’s about local ownership, local decision-making and a direct connection to the communities being served.
Your municipal electric utility is owned by your community. That means decisions about the utility are made with local needs and priorities in mind. Revenue from the electric system stays in your community, supporting the utility as well as other local services and priorities.
At Heartland, we’re proud to support our public power customers. We see firsthand the difference local utilities make—from keeping electric service reliable and affordable to supporting community growth, helping businesses expand and investing in the infrastructure needed for the future.
Public Power Week is also an opportunity to share that story with your customers.
Heartland has put together resources to help, including social media content and print materials you can use throughout the week. The American Public Power Association also has a variety of resources and ideas to help communities celebrate and explain the value of public power.
We encourage you to take advantage of these resources and find ways to make public power part of the conversation in your community. Share a local success story, highlight your employees, explain a recent system improvement or simply remind customers why local ownership matters.
Thank you for being part of public power—and for the important role you play in serving your community.
Happy Public Power Week!
