May 13, 2026Madison High School senior earns award from Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio
Madison High School senior Maguire Studer has made a strong impact in the fine arts.
Throughout high school, he’s earned several honors in band and choir. He has also helped guide fellow musicians as a section leader and most recently drum major.
School officials say his character and integrity carry beyond music and into the school community.
“Maguire is a great leader in our school,” said MHS Principal Dr. Andrew Johnson. “He’s a student ambassador who sets a great example to lower classmen. He’s funny, smart, and is well known at school because of his kind, open personality.”
Studer has been named Student of the Month by Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio. He’s recognized for his involvement, character and outstanding achievements.
Studer is active in jazz, marching and concert band. As drum major, he’s helped lead practices and performances throughout the year.
He is also a standout vocalist. He participates in mixed and MadVoices Jazz Choir, and is a four-year member of All-State Chorus. He was selected for the South Dakota Senior Honor Choir in 2025.
Outside of the arts, Studer enjoys tennis and helps coach younger players in the community. In 2024, he and doubles partner Chase Steuerwald placed second in their flight at the state tournament.
He is active in National Honor Society and Key Club. He volunteers at Madison Elementary School and with the Lake County Food Pack.
Studer is the son of Chris and Carrie Studer. After high school, he plans to study civil engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
Student of the Month is awarded through a partnership of Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio in Madison. It recognizes outstanding students from five area school districts: Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga. Heartland provides wholesale electric power to each of these communities.
School officials from each district nominate students for the award.
