March 28, 2016Heartland is pleased to announce Morgan Fischer as our March student of the month. A senior at Arlington High School, Morgan is recognized for excelling in the arts and the classroom.
“Morgan’s pleasant and positive attitude will be missed next year,” said Arlington Principal Rhonda Gross. “She is an exceptional student and positive influence on students and staff. Her compassionate and hardworking personality will take her far.”
Morgan has a strong interest in the fine arts. She plays two instruments, guitar and baritone, and is a member of band and jazz band. She also is an accomplished singer, having participated in All State Chorus three years. In November she was selected to sing the national anthem at the South Dakota 9AA football championship game at the Dakota Dome. In her free time, she enjoys photography, painting, creative writing and journalism.
Morgan is also known as a leader among her peers, serving as yearbook editor and president of the National Honor Society, and is a Peer Mentor in the kindergarten and fifth grade classrooms.
“She is an outstanding ambassador for the Arlington School District,” said Gross.
Morgan is the daughter of Lauren and Nathan Antonen and Tony Fischer. After high school, she plans to attend Augustana University in Sioux Falls to major in elementary education. She is also considering minors in business and photography.
The “Student of the Month” is awarded through a partnership of Heartland and KJAM Radio in Madison, and recognizes exceptional students in one of five area school districts. Heartland provides wholesale power to the cities of Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga, all of which are in the KJAM listening area. Each month of the school year, Heartland presents an outstanding student from one of these schools with a recognition certificate and small token, and advertisements announcing the winning student air on KJAM Radio. Officials from each participating school nominate students for the award. This is the fifth year Heartland and KJAM have teamed up to offer this program.
