Brynlee Landis of Colman earns award from Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio

Colman-Egan senior Brynlee Landis has built an impressive resume as a three-sport student athlete.

Throughout her high school career, she has helped lead multiple teams to state tournaments. Along the way, she’s earned top finishes and reached major milestones.

“Brynlee has led the volleyball, basketball and track teams to success in recent years,” said C-E Principal Jesse Johnson. “She also excels in the classroom. Her GPA is over 4.0–the top of her class–and she serves as the class president. She is a hardworking role model for all students.”

Landis has been named Student of the Month by Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio. She’s recognized for her drive, leadership and strong academic record.

Landis has been a starter in volleyball since eighth grade and maintains a dominant presence as an outside hitter. In 2024 she was named MVP of the All-Dakota Valley Conference (DVC) volleyball team and helped her team reach the State B Tournament for the fifth straight year.

The C-E Hawks won the Consolation Championship and Landis earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She was also a Second Team All-State selection and was named to the Brookings All-Register Team.

Now in her senior season, Landis has reached the 1,000-career mark in both digs and kills–a rare combination that shows her all-around impact.

Landis also hit a career milestone in basketball, notching 1,000 points her junior year. That season she was named DVC Conference MVP, earning a spot on the First Team, and was a Second Team All-State selection for Class B.

She has also been named to the All-Register Girls Basketball Team three years in a row.

Landis is also a steady contributor in track and field, helping Colman-Egan girls place among the top teams at Class B state meets multiple years. A frequent relay runner, she has helped break school and meet records in the 4×800 and 4×200.

At the 2025 state meet, she earned first place with the 4×400 team and second place with the medley relay team. Her 4×200 team earned second place at state in 2024.

Beyond sports, Landis provides classmates with steady leadership and a strong work ethic. She serves as class president and is active in National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

She also represented her school at DVC’s inaugural Leadership Retreats, helping establish the conference’s Sportsmanship Code.

In her free time, Landis volunteers as a youth volleyball and basketball referee, works with Special Olympics, and teaches Sunday School at her church.

Landis is the daughter of Justin and Brandi Landis. After graduation, she will play basketball at Dordt University and study pre-law or criminal justice, beginning her path to become a lawyer.

The “Student of the Month” is awarded through a partnership of Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio in Madison and recognizes exceptional students in one of five area school districts. Heartland provides wholesale power to the cities of Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga, all of which are in the KJAM listening area.

Each month of the school year, Heartland presents an outstanding student from one of these schools with a recognition certificate and small token, and advertisements announcing the winning student air on KJAM Radio. Officials from each participating school nominate students for the award.
