Elizabeth “Lizzy” Rowen has a reputation for helping others–especially young children.
She teaches pre-K Sunday school and volunteers as a referee and umpire for youth basketball and softball.
Arlington High School Principal Lisa Parry says her work with youth leaves a lasting impact.
“Lizzy is a conscientious student who is involved in both fine arts and athletics. Despite her busy schedule, Lizzy always finds time to help in our preschool room,” she said. “She has a wonderful way with littles, and I know that classroom will miss her next year.”
Rowen has been named Student of the Month by Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio. She is recognized for her leadership and commitment to making a difference.
Rowen is a three-sport athlete, playing volleyball, basketball and softball. She served as captain of all three teams this year. In 2024, she helped lead the Cardinals to a state runner-up finish in basketball.
Rowen excels in the classroom as a three-time recipient of the Presidential Academic Award. She also plays in the school band.
Rowen is the daughter of Dan and Machelle Rowen. After high school she plans to study nursing at Dakota Wesleyan University’s Sioux Falls campus, working toward an associate’s degree.
Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio’s Student of the Month program celebrates exceptional students in one of five area school districts. Heartland Energy provides wholesale power to the cities of Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga.
Each month, a deserving student from one of those communities is honored for their outstanding achievements. Officials from each participating school nominate students for the award.
