November 5, 2024Kaitlyn Taggart earns award from Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio
Kaitlyn Taggart, a senior at Colman-Egan High School, has been named Student of the Month by Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio for her academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement.
As senior valedictorian, Girls State delegate, and member of National Honor Society, Taggart excels academically. She’s consistently made the A-Honor Roll and is a recipient of the Looney Days Scholarship. She is also a dedicated athlete, participating in softball and volleyball, while actively volunteering in the community.
Principal Jesse Johnson praised her work ethic, noting, “Kaitlyn is a hard worker and the highest-ranked student at our school. She’s involved in so much—sports, clubs, volunteer work—and she does it all with a work ethic and attitude that others admire. Students across all grades look up to her.”
Her involvement extends to the Colman community, volunteering for the local fire department’s annual fundraising events and working part-time at T&R Electric.
Her Senior Project—a donation drive for the Ronald McDonald House—collected teddy bears and blankets for families staying with their children during hospital treatments.
Taggart is the daughter of DeWayne and Kirsten Taggart. After graduation, she plans to attend the University of South Dakota to study nursing.
Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio’s Student of the Month program celebrates students like Taggart who excel not just in academics but in making a positive impact on those around them. Heartland Energy provides wholesale power to the cities of Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison, and Volga. Each month, a deserving student from one of these communities is honored for their outstanding achievements.
