Student of the Month combines creativity and determination

Whether she’s experimenting with art or working toward her goals in the classroom, Arlington High School senior Dystiny Loss enjoys exploring new ideas and developing her skills.
“Dystiny is a quiet leader who always shows up to school fully prepared and properly focused,” said AHS Principal Lisa Parry. “She spends as much time as she can in the art room where her talents shine. We will miss her ingenuity when she graduates in May.”
Loss has been named Student of the Month by Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio. She’s recognized for both her achievements and drive.
Loss’s curiosity has helped her grow as an artist, which has led to recognition for her work in drawing, mixed media and sculpture. Her artistic achievements include medals in Art I, II and III.
At the Lake Preston Art Show, she received honorable mention as a sophomore, followed by first place in 2D Mixed Media and Sculpture and third place in Drawing as a junior.
Outside the art room, Loss participates in cross country and track and field, earning varsity letters in both. She also enjoys working out, learning about history, and traveling.
Loss is the daughter of Greg and Jayne Loss. After high school, she plans to begin basic training with the U.S. Army before completing specialized training for a career in military intelligence. She then hopes to attend college and continue her education.
The “Student of the Month” is awarded through a partnership of Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio in Madison.
It recognizes exceptional students from five area school districts: Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison, and Volga. Heartland provides wholesale electric power to each of these communities.
School officials from each district nominate students for the award.
