Russell Olson
Chief Executive Officer
Olson was named CEO of Heartland Energy in 2013 after previously serving as manager of community and economic development. Olson oversees operation of Heartland Energy and is actively engaged in advocating for public power. He serves as vice chair of Public Power Generation Agency, the interlocal agency created for the purpose of constructing and operating Whelan Energy Center Unit 2. He is also a member of the board of directors of American Public Power Association and previously served in the South Dakota Legislature. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Dakota with majors in English and political science. He also earned a master’s degree in public administration from USD.
