Colman-Egan senior Presley Luze is the kind of student who makes an impact. A top scholar and athlete, she shines in the classroom, in competition and in her community.
“Presley is a role model for all students at Colman-Egan,” said CE Principal Jesse Johnson. “She is one of the top students in the senior class and is a leader in extracurriculars.”
Luze has been named Student of the Month by Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio. She’s recognized as a hardworking, determined, talented student athlete.
Luze serves as president of National Honor Society and her senior class. She held the position of class treasurer her sophomore and junior years. Luze attended South Dakota Girls State in 2024 and was a member of Colman-Egan’s 2024 homecoming royalty.
Luze’s leadership extends into her faith and community. She spent her junior year teaching 5th and 6th grade at her church. She spends summers working at her grandmother’s daycare.
A multi-sport athlete, Luze stands out in volleyball, basketball, track and cross country. In 2024, she reached an impressive milestone in volleyball with 1,000 career digs. She earned spots on both the All-Register and All-Dakota Valley Conference volleyball teams. She was also honorable mention for the DVC basketball team in 2024.
In track, Luze has contributed to multiple record-breaking relay teams.
Her 4×800 relay team broke the Colman-Egan school record in 2021, 2022 and 2023. They also set a new Howard Wood Dakota Relays record in 2023. She was also part of a medley relay team that set a new school record.
Luze is the daughter of Rick and Brittney Luze. After high school, she plans to pursue a nursing degree at South Dakota State University.
Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio’s Student of the Month program celebrates exceptional students in one of five area school districts. Heartland Energy provides wholesale power to the cities of Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga.
Each month, a deserving student from one of these communities is honored for their outstanding achievements. Officials from each participating school nominate students for the award.
