Multi-sport standout named Student of the Month
February 9, 2026Sioux Valley High School senior Talya Vincent earns honor from Heartland and KJAM Radio
During her junior year, Talya Vincent became just the fifth player in South Dakota girls basketball history to hit 100 three-pointers in a single season. That milestone capped a notable season that culminated in a state consolation championship and multiple individual honors.

A senior at Sioux Valley High School (SVHS), Vincent’s athleticism is matched by her character and work ethic.
“Talya is a well-rounded student who excels academically and competes at a high level in multiple varsity sports,” said SVHS Principal Tyler Bolstad. “She is a respected classmate and teammate, known for her kindness and integrity. She quietly raises the bar for those around her and makes a positive impact on Sioux Valley’s school culture every day.”
Vincent has been named Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio’s Student of the Month. She is recognized for exceling in both sports and academics.
Vincent is a three-year starter for the girls basketball team and returning all-state honorable mention. In 2025 she was named to the Brookings All-Register Basketball Team and was picked by her peers as Teammate of the Year.
In volleyball, Vincent notched her 1,000th career dig in 2023 as a sophomore. As a senior, she earned All-Register Volleyball Team honors and was selected by the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association to play in the All-Star Match. She is also a three-time Defensive Player of the Year for the Cossacks.
She earned Big East All-Conference honors in basketball and volleyball in 2024 and 2025. Those same years, she received LCC All-Conference recognition in basketball. She received LCC honors in volleyball in 2025.
Vincent is also a talented long-distance runner. She has qualified for state cross country five times and was named Team MVP in 2025.
Outside of sports, Vincent is a member of National Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has been on the Honor Roll since 2022 and is a 2025 recipient of Sioux Valley Student of the Month for academics.
Vincent is the daughter of Bill and Jill Vincent. After high school, she plans to study education at a four-year university and continue her athletic career.
Student of the Month is awarded through a partnership of Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio in Madison. It recognizes outstanding students from five area school districts: Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga. Heartland provides wholesale electric power to each of these communities.
