April 9, 2025

Heartland Energy recently awarded the City of Madison a $5,000 Power Forward grant to upgrade lighting at the city’s recycling center to energy efficient LEDs.

Heartland Chief Communications Officer Ann Hyland, right, presented the grant to Madison Mayor Roy Lindsay, left, and Director of Public Works Gary Gonyo.

The city replaced 37 fluorescent fixtures with LED which is expected to save around $800 in energy costs per year. In addition, the new lights provide a brighter work environment.

Heartland Energy provides wholesale power to the city of Madison. They provide grants to customers through the Power Forward program for projects that optimize electric energy use or promote electrification.

New LED lighting in the facility provides a brighter work environment for staff, who sort recycling items by hand.
