Judd Guida honored with Distinguished Service Award
October 30, 2025Utility Supervisor keeps Tyler connected
Judd Guida has earned a reputation for reliability and leadership in Tyler, Minnesota.
He began his municipal career with a simple goal: serve the town he grew up in. Eight years later, he’s worked his way up from utility worker to supervisor.
He oversees multiple city departments while keeping Tyler’s electric system running smoothly. His commitment has made a lasting mark on the community he calls home.
Known for his calm demeanor and strong work ethic, Guida has earned the respect of coworkers and community members alike. It’s one of many reasons he’s been named this year’s recipient of Heartland Energy’s Distinguished Service Award.

                                            Humble, steady leader
Guida’s career in public power began at the ground level.
After being hired by the city of Tyler, he was eager to learn. He soon began training in the lineman program through Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association.
Over the years, he advanced to utility supervisor. He now manages all the city’s utilities, including the electric department, streets, water, wastewater, parks and natural gas system.
Those who work alongside Guida say he’s pleasant, easy to work with, and leads by example. He guides both new hires and longtime employees with patience and respect.
“He leads with integrity and skill, and is an outstanding example of dedication and leadership within our community,” said Tyler City Administrator Terry East.
Mayor Joan Jagt praised Guida, noting he believes in and practices teamwork and performs his duties with the utmost care.
He is also consistently looking out for Tyler’s future, planning for long-term growth and the success of the city.
“He attends council meetings with a well-prepared report of work done and plans for future projects,” Jagt said. “He works well with everyone in the department as well as with our customers.”

                                            Building a stronger utility
When Guida joined the city, Tyler’s electric system was beginning to show its age and in need of modernization.
Since then, he’s overseen major upgrades that have made the system safer and more reliable. Among the more notable projects, Guida has assisted with connecting a new K-12 school, rerouting utilities for sidewalk improvements, and completing decades’ worth of tree trimming.
He’s also maintained an aging substation to keep it operational while planning for its replacement.
“Judd has played a vital role in keeping the city of Tyler running smoothly,” said East.
His dedication is helping ensure Tyler remains strong, modern, and well-prepared for both current and future residents.

                                            Invested in his community
Guida’s dedication doesn’t stop at city hall. He’s an active volunteer and strong supporter of local programs.
As a member of the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (RTR) Basketball Board, he helps organize tournaments that bring players and visitors to town. He participates in RTR School District activities and is often found working behind the scenes at community events to ensure they are successful.
Guida also volunteers with his church and recently joined the board of directors for The Rock Christian Youth Center, a local non-profit youth organization.
East noted that Guida makes a positive impact wherever he goes.
“What’s most admirable is how he manages to balance his demanding career with being a devoted family man and loyal friend. His commitment to both work and his personal life reflects the values that make our city stronger,” said East.
