Colman-Egan senior earns award from Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio

Senior year for Jonathon “Jonny” Keyes is shaping up to be quite memorable. The multi-sport student athlete at Colman-Egan High School (CEHS) has earned numerous honors thus far for his efforts in and out of the classroom.

Keyes has been named Student of the Month by Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio. He’s recognized as a well-rounded student athlete who leads by example.

“Jonathon is a great student who comes to school every day with a good attitude,” said CEHS Principal Jesse Johnson. “He is a role model for younger students, and he will be successful in whatever he decides to do in the future.”

Keyes participates in football, basketball and track, and earned DVC All-Conference honors for football this year. He’s known as a hard worker and enjoys spending his free time in the weight room with friends.

Keyes is a member of the National Honor Society and attended Boys State earlier this year. He’s been a member of the school’s A Honor Roll since 2020 and was named 2023 Homecoming King.

Keyes is the son of Jeff and Jennifer Keyes. After high school, he plans to study exercise science at the University of South Dakota to pursue a career as a physical therapist.

The “Student of the Month” is awarded through a partnership of Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio in Madison and recognizes exceptional students in one of five area school districts. Heartland Energy provides wholesale power to the cities of Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga, all of which are in the KJAM listening area. Officials from each participating school nominate students for the award.

Each month of the school year, Heartland Energy presents an outstanding student from one of these schools with a recognition certificate and small token, and advertisements announcing the winning student air on KJAM Radio.
