EmBe Education opens in Madison
April 7, 2026Community celebrates long-awaited childcare and preschool center
Families in Madison, SD now have access to a licensed childcare facility providing full-day childcare and preschool programming. EmBe Education – Madison opened its doors April 6.
Project officials recently celebrated with an open house and ribbon cutting. It was the culmination of a multi-year, $4.5 million project involving public and private partnerships.
The Madison Area Development Corporation (MADC) was the driving force behind the early learning center. Childcare was identified as a critical need in the community to support workforce participation, thereby strengthening families and local businesses.
The project was brought to fruition through a combination of grants, gifts, and pledges.
As the city’s wholesale power supplier, Heartland Energy assisted MADC in securing a $2.3 million REDLG loan from the US Department of Agriculture, saving the project significant financing costs, allowing more dollars to be invested into the facility.
Licensed for 140 children, the childcare center includes seven classrooms, an indoor gymnasium and outdoor playground. It is operated by EmBe, a renowned organization committed to empowering children and families.
EmBe Education – Madison offers full-day childcare and preschool programming Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For information, visit embe.org/embe-education-madison.
