Cossacks senior Lacey Langland earns award from Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio

Sioux Valley High School senior Lacey Langland is a driving force at the volleyball net.

As the varsity outside/middle hitter, Langland excels at attacking and blocking while also elevating her team’s performance.

In 2024 she helped lead the Cossacks to a sixth-place finish at the state volleyball tournament. This season, she has been named Taco John’s Athlete of the Week and is on track to earn her third varsity letter in the sport.

Langland’s success on the court, along with her strong academics and commitment to community service, has earned her recognition as Student of the Month, presented by Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio.

“Lacey is a tremendous young lady—highly motivated in both her academic and athletic pursuits,” said SVHS Principal Tyler Bolstad. “She’s incredibly talented in the classroom, a hard worker, and deeply dedicated to her craft. Her success is a testament to her commitment and character.”

Langland also competes with the Elite Alliance Volleyball Club in Watertown. A four-year member, she was named EAVC Offensive MVP in 2022 and earned the Purple Jersey Award in 2023. Last year she earned a spot on the EAVC National Team.

Service is another important part of Langland’s life. She is active in her church youth group and volunteers for various church events throughout the year.

She also helps prep and serve meals to the congregation and assists with Operation Christmas Child. In the community, she contributes to local events like B-Fest and Honey Days.

At SVHS, Langland is co-president of the National Honor Society and has made the Honor Roll list every year since 9th grade. She earned the American Legion School Award in 2022.

She is active in Choir and was a member of the Big East Conference Honors Choir in 2022 and 2023.

Outside of school and volunteering, Langland enjoys reading, baking and spending time with her family.

“Lacey is a well-rounded individual who consistently uplifts and inspires those around her,” Bolstad said.

Langland is the daughter of Jason and Jodie Langland. After graduation, she plans to attend a four-year college and pursue a career in pharmacy.

The “Student of the Month” is awarded through a partnership of Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio in Madison and recognizes exceptional students in one of five area school districts. Heartland provides wholesale power to the cities of Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga, all of which are in the KJAM listening area.

Each month of the school year, Heartland presents an outstanding student from one of these schools with a recognition certificate and small token, and advertisements announcing the winning student air on KJAM Radio. Officials from each participating school nominate students for the award.
