From academics to service groups to inspiring the next generation, Briella Wettlaufer is truly a servant leader.
The Howard High School senior founded the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Huddle to lead small group devotions. She is an active member of FCA and her church youth group. She also participates in Child Evangelism Fellowship, sharing the message of faith with the next generation.
“Ms. Wettlaufer challenges herself with rigorous courses and carries a 4.0 GPA,” said HHS principal T.A. Aslesen. “She has been a leader in developing our local FCA chapter and enjoys great success on our cross country team. She is a serious and dedicated student.”
Her commitment to her many endeavors and desire to help others has earned Wettlaufer recognition as Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio’s Student of the Month.
Wettlaufer is a three-time state cross country qualifier. She also participates in track and earned a 12th place finish in the 3200 meter race at the State B meet in 2024.
Wettlaufer is also deeply interested in agriculture. She serves as vice president of FFA and has excelled in competitions in recent years.
Her Agricultural Issues team won state competition in 2024 and advanced to Nationals–a first for Howard.
Wettlaufer is also a two-time district champion in Extemporaneous Public Speaking and placed second and sixth at state in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Wettlaufer is president of National Honor Society. She participates in Quizbowl and Science Bowl, and has been on the A Honor Roll every year since 2019. She was named Miss Miner Snow Queen in 2024.
Wettlaufer is the daughter of Carly and Travis Wettlaufer. After graduation, she plans to attend South Dakota State University to double major in Agronomy and Horticulture.
She hopes to work as an agronomist before pursuing her calling as an international missionary.
Heartland Energy and KJAM Radio’s Student of the Month program celebrates exceptional students in one of five area school districts. Heartland Energy provides wholesale power to the cities of Arlington, Colman, Howard, Madison and Volga.
Each month, a deserving student from one of those communities is honored for their outstanding achievements. Officials from each participating school nominate students for the award.
