Schaefer marks ten years of outstanding service

Human Resources (HR) plays a critical role in shaping a positive workplace culture, ensuring compliance, and driving employee development.

Theresa Schaefer has been helping align organizational objectives with employee needs at Heartland Energy for ten years. As director of human resources, Schaefer oversees essential functions such as staff hiring, managing benefits, compensation and performance management.

“Theresa’s efforts have consistently helped to strengthen employee connectivity and professional growth,” said Heartland Energy CEO Russell Olson. “During her tenure, she has led a number of impactful initiatives that have resulted in positive organizational changes and improved HR processes.”

Schaefer possesses over 25 years of experience in the HR field. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), having received her SHRM certification in 2016. She maintains her certification through continuing education courses related to employment law, compensation, benefits compliance, performance management and employee relations.

“I love working for Heartland Energy and the past ten years have flown by,” Schaefer said. “I truly enjoy helping people. We have a talented staff, and it is exciting to watch employees grow both professionally and personally.”

As a lifelong resident of Madison, Schaefer is also dedicated to serving the community. She serves as a board member of the Madison Central School Educational Foundation, which facilitates financial support for the school district.

She is also a member of the choir for St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Together with her husband Randy, they support numerous civic organizations, including Dakota State University.
